Missed the July Super Deadline? What Physio Clinics Should Do Now

The ATO has reminded employers that the final quarterly super payment was due on 28 July.

If your clinic paid on time, good.

If you are not sure, check now.

Late super is not a small admin issue. It can cost more than the original payment. It can also create stress for the clinic owner and the team.

Check the payment date

Do not only check the date you approved the payment.

Check when the money reached the staff super funds.

That matters because super is not counted as paid when you click approve in your payroll system. It must arrive at the fund by the due date.

Ask your bookkeeper or payroll provider for proof.

You want to see:

  • the pay period
  • the staff names
  • the amount paid for each person
  • the payment date
  • the fund receipt date, if available
  • any rejected or returned payments

Look for rejected payments

A super payment can fail for simple reasons.

Common issues include:

  • wrong fund details
  • a closed super account
  • missing employee information
  • a failed clearing house payment
  • not enough money in the clinic bank account

A rejected payment still needs action. Do not assume the first payment worked.

If super was late, act quickly

If the clinic missed the due date, speak with your adviser.

You may need to lodge a Super Guarantee Charge statement with the ATO. This can be more costly than normal super because it may include extra amounts and admin fees.

The key point is simple.

Do not hide it. Do not leave it until the next BAS. Fix it now.

Tight cash flow is a warning sign

If the payment was late because cash was tight, look deeper.

A busy physio clinic can still run short of cash. Wages, rent, software, loans, BAS, and supplies can all land at once.

Super should not be used as a short-term loan.

If this has happened more than once, the clinic needs a better cash plan.

What to do this week

Set aside 20 minutes and check:

  1. Was the July super paid?
  2. Did it reach each fund?
  3. Were any payments rejected?
  4. Is any amount still unpaid?
  5. Is the next super amount already being set aside?

This is a simple check. But it can save a lot of pain.

Your team earned the super. The clinic needs a clear system to pay it on time.
